Is Your Home Ready for the Holidays? Home Improvements to Make Before Guests Arrive

By Emily McDowell · 11/4/2026

The holiday season is a time for gathering with family, welcoming friends, and making memories at home. Whether you're hosting a holiday dinner, having family stay overnight, or simply looking forward to a cozy season indoors, now is the perfect time to make sure your home is ready. From refreshing your kitchen to creating a more comfortable living space, a few home improvements can make a big difference in how your home looks and feels this holiday season. Create a Kitchen That's Ready for Holiday Gatherings The kitchen is often the heart of the home during the holidays. Between preparing meals, baking treats, and spending time with loved ones, it's one of the busiest spaces in the house. Consider updating your kitchen with improvements such as new countertops, refreshed cabinets, updated lighting, or a more functional layout. Even smaller updates can help make your kitchen feel more inviting and practical for holiday entertaining. Refresh Your Living Room for Cozy Gatherings Your living room is where guests gather, relax, and enjoy time together. Fresh paint, updated flooring, improved lighting, or a new layout can help transform your space into a warm and welcoming environment. If you've been thinking about remodeling or updating your living area, the holidays can be a great opportunity to start planning your project. Take Care of Those Home Repairs You've Been Putting Off Before the colder weather settles in, it's important to address any repairs that could become bigger problems later. Consider checking your roof for damaged shingles, inspecting exterior stucco for cracks, and making sure your heating system is working properly. Taking care of these items ahead of time can help keep your home comfortable and protected throughout the season. Make Your Home More Comfortable for Guests If you're expecting overnight visitors, think about the little details that can make their stay more comfortable. Fresh paint, updated flooring, bathroom improvements, and general home repairs can help create a more welcoming space for everyone. Whether it's a small refresh or a larger renovation, improving your home can make holiday hosting more enjoyable.
